Marketing
Equally practical and theoretical, our marketing teachers are researchers who helped me understand the role of marketing, through curiosity, creativity, analysis, evidence, and innovation. The course covered branding, content marketing, marketing analytics, social media marketing, and search engine marketing, to name just a few topics.
I explored areas such as consumer behaviour, promotion, advertising, market research, project and channel management, and strategic marketing. Practical projects included developing marketing plans, implementing advertising campaigns, conducting marketing research, and developing marketing strategies. This major involved comprehensive study with some of the best marketing academics and professionals in the country. It was taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, and other in-class activities. Combined with the Business School’s high-level industry partnerships, it balanced theory, practice, and future prospects for for a career in marketing.

Economics
Economics is at the forefront of controversial public policy issues such as economic growth and the stability of the entire economy, regulating financial institutions, monetary and fiscal policies, dealing with the Australian economy, resource taxation, financing education, immigration, health insurance markets, and retirement income planning.
This major included core subjects in microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics provides the framework for analysing issues in taxation, trade, and the competitive structure of markets, while macroeconomics focuses on the forces that influence long-term economic growth, inflation, unemployment, and the balance of payments. By exploring both microeconomics and macroeconomics, I developed the capacity to understand the fundamental workings of the economy and markets and the implications of economic policy.
UWA Campus Involvement
During my studies at the University of Western Australia, I was extremely involved with the extracurricular activities offered throughout my degree. I firmly believed that the campus and club culture at UWA sets it apart from all other universities in Western Australia. A list of positions I held during my time at UWA can be found below.

The UWA Student Guild
Independent and free from University influence, the Guild holds considerable sway over decision-making at UWA, working in the interest of the students. The UWA Student Guild has been run by students, for students at UWA since 1913.
The Guild remains dedicated to providing the best University experience possible for all students, enabling them to graduate with more than just a degree.
Each year the UWA Student Guild holds its annual elections for the student body to select the office bearers and Guild councilors. I was elected to the 104th and 105th Guild Council by the student body.
Annual Reports
-
The Tenancy Committee oversees the storage and clubroom facilities administered to clubs by the Guild. The Tenancy Committee works heavily with the Societies Council to provide the best experience for the clubs we manage.
The committee has been extremely busy with a mid-year reallocation of storage facilities. The committee reviewed current tenants and how they were using their facilities.
The Guild Treasurer and I have worked in the background with the Engagement staff to review how our loan-out system currently operates and develop recommendations for the 2019 Tenancy Committee to implement. improving the system for club executives.
The committee also reallocated Cameron Hall Room #183, with the room having a portion of its floorboard replaced to keep up with the quality expected by tenants. All tenants this ear have kept their room to extremely high standards and have performed extremely well during our busy bees.
Club rooms and storage allow clubs to function in a more efficient way. This efficiency allows clubs to better provide for their members. It is pivotal that we continue to provide excellent service to these clubs.

The Sports Representative is primarily responsible for the Interfaculty Sports Competition that occurs every Wednesday at lunchtime. This year, Interfaculty sport was chosen to start an hour earlier and has resulted in a 20% increase in participation. With the work of both UWA Sport and the Sports Sub-Committee, the 2017 season of Interfaculty Sport has been the most inclusive and competitive yet.
Interfaculty Sport has always looked to provide a place where people of all skill levels are welcome. This year we removed many individual team sports to focus on teamwork. For the first time, Interfaculty Sport included Women's AFL. In partnership with the Women's Department, this event attracted 75 participants and a large, supportive crowd.
The Guild continued its participation in the Guild XI vs the Vice-Chancellor's XI Cricket Match. The event continues to bring together the WA community. This year the Vice-Chancellor's XI came up on top, with both teams fighting until the end.
The Sports Sub-Committee ran a new initiative with the International Students' Services. The AFL Workshop taught international students the basic rules and skills of our national game. The event provided international students with a way to exercise and meet new people at UWA.
The Guild and UWA Sports will look to continue its partnership through the Stakeholder Reference Group comprising representatives from Guild departments such as Access. Women's, International Students' Service, and many more. This Reference Group will provide ongoing feedback to make sure that UWA Sports' activities are as inclusive, accessible, and relevant as possible.
Guild representatives have also been ensuring that there is increased funding and support for Inter-College sporting activities, and a focus on social sporting opportunities that all students can access.
PROSH UWA
PROSH is a satirical newspaper charity published by the University of Western Australia Student Guild and is known for its humorous and irreverent content that pokes fun at various aspects of university life, as well as current events and political figures. The newspaper is entirely created and written by UWA students, and it is also distributed by the student body throughout the City of Perth. The emphasis is often on charities that are less well known, with less glamorous causes, particularly those that are youth-run or youth-focused. Many are based in WA and/or can show the PROSH money would be used for a particular project of community benefit.
Beginning in 1931, PROSH began as the Sruss-Sruss which, In the midst of the Depression, “the Lord Mayor’s Fund for the relief of unemployment” was announced as the beneficiary. In the 1950’s the Sruss-Sruss began known as “PROSH” which was derived from the inability of inebriated students to pronounce the word “procession” without a slight slur.
PROSH is a UWA tradition and has held such a sacred place on the UWA calendar, that the UWA Senate cancels classes for the morning of PROSH.
PROSH has evolved into a prominent beneficiary event that raises over $50,000 in a single day every year - making it one of the largest single day charity event in the Southern Hemisphere.
