The Perth Wildcats are a professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The team was founded in 1982 and has been a member of the National Basketball League (NBL) since then. The Perth Wildcats the most successful team in the NBL, with ten championship titles to their name.
Game Night DJ
I joined the Perth Wildcats Production Team for the 2020/2021 Season as a Game Night DJ.
Prior to my hiring, I had supported national and international acts throughout my 5 years of DJing experience. I was thrilled to be able to combine my passion for music and my love of sports.
My ‘rookie’ season featured learning the roles of each production team and most importantly, learning to watch Basketball from the perspective of a member of the production team rather than a fan.
I was extremely lucky to play during a variety of milestone games including; Game 3 of the NBL 2020/21 NBL Finals Series, the 40th Anniversary Game, and the first game against the expansion franchise, the Tasmanian JackJumpers, in front of 13,615 people.
I am extremely appreciative of my two seasons with the Perth Wildcats. I gained valuable insight into how championship-winning teams function, and the mentality needed to win.
Role Requirements
Create and sculpt game night atmosphere before, during and post Wildcat’s games.
Work within the production team to provide game night entertainment for fans, through pre and in-game entertainment, and promotions.
Regular analysis and review of work to continually create high-level production quality.
Music creation and sound effect mapping through Ableton software.
Creation of a music structure approved by the Wildcats Game Night Manager.
Co-ordinating the use of the band during the game.
Working within a high-pressure environment in which split second decisions are made.
Game Night DJ Roles

Main DJ
Play music pre-game, in-game, and post-game.
Coordinate with the production team musical changes during promotions and video segments.
Relay information to the Back-Up DJ from the Main Production Radio Channel.
During the Game, Music is played during offensive plays only. It is the Main DJ’s responsibility to select and play music.
Coordinate and communicate with the Main MC when music or chants will be played on offence.

Back-Up DJ
Play sound effects pre, during, and post game.
Instruct and coordinate the Wildcats Band on their use throughout the game.
Relay important information to the Wildcats Band.
Sound effects, including the ‘DEFENCE’ beat are played on defensive plays only.
Coordinate and communicate with the Main MC when music or chants will be played on offence.
